Who can volunteer?

  • Public Health Professionals including epidemiologists and health educators.
  • Health Care Professionals including doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, emergency medical technicians, pharmacists, veterinarians, dentists, nurse assistants, medical assistants, health paraprofessionals, morticians and others.
  • Behavioral Health Professionals including social workers, psychologists, marriage and family therapists and others.
  • Others with essential emergency response skills such as clergy, interpreters and others.

 

Volunteers may be practicing, retired or otherwise employed.

 

United States citizenship is not required to be part of the Medical Reserve Corps. Non-citizen, legal U.S. residents are also welcome to volunteer and contribute their time, knowledge, and skills to protecting and improving their communities.

For What Types of Emergencies are Volunteers Needed?

Medical Reserve Corps volunteers may be utilized to support emergency medical and mental health workers in the event of a public health emergency. The type of emergency will determine the activities volunteers are needed for.

Volunteers may help with activities such as:

  • Screening medical forms
  • Distributing medications
  • Providing injections
  • Serving as a health educator
  • Evaluating medical needs
  • Interpreting or translating
  • Triaging individuals
  • Administering first aid
  • Providing disaster behavioral health services
  • Ushering or assisting with registration
